County departments report chip-seal completion, septic violations and budget hearing schedule

County staff provided routine updates on maintenance, compliance and budget matters during the Aug. 20 meeting.
Public works (Corey) reported that a multi-road chip-seal project covering routes such as Rogers Willow Lane and Canyon View is complete, with crews planning further grooming when temperatures allow to avoid damaging the new surface. Staff also noted repair work on a major irrigation ditch that had temporarily shifted schedules.
Compliance officer Ashley reported several recent septic violations and one subdivision violation; she said she has sent a large case to the county attorney's office and that fines could total more than $200,000 based on per-day penalties of $500. Ashley said staff will work with the county attorney and landowners to seek a resolution.
Kristen reminded commissioners that the FY25 budget public hearing continues at 9 a.m. Friday, that the final budget should be posted Aug. 28 and a resolution is anticipated Sept. 5.
