Commissioners approved a $25,160 change order for roofing work on the fairgrounds exhibit building during the Aug. 20 meeting.
Fairgrounds staff explained the change order covers filling in skylights, adding wood nailers at the north and south edges to secure the membrane roof, installing metal fascia to cover the nailers, removing some rain diverters and removing venting pipes for older Modine heaters that are no longer in use. "The total of the change orders came out to $25,160," the presenter said, adding that grant funding remains available to cover the additional costs and that K and K Roofing remains the low bidder even after the change order.
Commissioner motion and second carried by voice vote. Staff said they intend to procure separate bids for an insulation project later because they believe a separate bid that includes sidewall insulation will provide better value.
Why it matters: The change order affects a county facility used for community events and is being covered by available grant funds; commissioners approved the additional work so construction can proceed with improved durability and appearance.
