County staff told the commission that the body voted to create a Weed and Pest District and that the next step is to recruit five landowners who represent agricultural interests in the county.
"The commission voted to create the Weed And Pest District. And so now, I have to find 5 people that, are landowners in the county and represent some sort of agricultural interest in the county," Curtis said. He said grazing is the county's largest agricultural interest but that the panel would welcome diversity among members, such as hay growers or intensive gardeners. Curtis suggested the district would likely meet quarterly once established but acknowledged the body might meet monthly for a short start-up period to appoint a director and finalize a budget.
Commissioners were asked to suggest candidates; staff said they would accept recommendations and proceed with appointments. The commission approved the minutes of the prior meeting earlier in the session; the minutes approval was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote.
