President Terry Counley told trustees the village’s eight-page Parking Ordinance contains internal contradictions that prevent police from issuing tickets or enforcing rules. "Our Parking Ordinance is a mess. The Police can’t write tickets or enforce anything because the Ordinance contradicts itself," he said, and Counley and department leadership plan a line-by-line review before drafting proposed changes for Attorney Shaw.
Board members agreed the rewrite will take time and probably won’t be ready for the September meeting. The review will involve the police chief and sergeant, and staff will deliver a proposed redraft to Attorney Shaw for legal review when completed.
