Mary Newson read comments from the family and said the son Edward was enthusiastic about the idea and might attend the dedication. "I talked with Desmardt's son, Edward, and he was so excited that this could be a possibility," Newson said.
Staff clarified that an honorary sign is different from a street renaming and does not require the renaming process; the board was told one honorary sign costs approximately $450. Given the number of recent requests, a board member proposed temporarily suspending additional honorary-sign requests until staff drafts a policy with objective criteria. The board approved the honorary sign at the specified intersection and separately voted to temporarily suspend additional requests pending a policy.
