VDOT: Route 460 paving a month ahead but will require full closure Sept. 8–12

A Virginia Department of Transportation representative told the board the contractor is actually running a month ahead of schedule on the Route 460 resurfacing project, but that final paving will require a full closure of 460 the week of Sept. 8 through the 12th with detours and daytime work.
"That will be done the week of September 8 through the 12th, whether permitting," the VDOT representative said, and noted the planned closure hours would be roughly 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. He described a signage and delineator plan that begins east of Piedmont Geriatric Hospital and warned that some signs and temporary barriers may present sight‑line issues for tractor trailers; the county asked VDOT to coordinate notification with emergency services and to consider a post‑implementation speed study if incidents appear.
The representative also described other federally funded safety work under HSIP — including rumble strips and centerline striping on secondary roads — and said the county will be notified through social media and signage before the detour begins.
