People Service staff reported recent water-main breaks, an increase in valve-box debris that obstructs isolation, and a repeating sewer force-main failure. Staff said the key long-term fixes include better valve exercising and inventory of valve boxes.
On metering, staff said they discovered meter IDs and radio IDs have been switched in some cases, and a ticket was opened with the vendor G Works on May 28 to resolve the mismatches before any large-scale manual work is done. The department also plans hydro flushing and technology updates to reduce high-transmission issues, and said it purchased a tablet to assist meter reading while pursuing longer-term radio replacements.
Staff flagged specific break locations (across from John Deere and at Canal Street) and said they would coordinate utility redirects for the bypass project; they requested council support for the planned work and follow-up reporting on the meter-sync ticket.
