Parent tells board truancy letters followed 0.5-day attendance coding for extracurricular pickups

During the public-comment period, Seth Johnson said his two elementary-aged children are regularly removed from school at about 2:45 p.m. on Wednesdays to attend gymnastics practice in Peoria and are recorded by the district as having a 0.5-day absence. He said the district has issued truancy letters because of those 0.5‑day marks and asked the board to provide the attendance-policy language that allows that coding.
"We have actually received truancy letters because of this 0.5 day miss for an extracurricular activity," Johnson said. Board members acknowledged the concern and indicated they would follow up to locate and present the policy language; no immediate policy change or vote occurred during the meeting.
