Travis Isaacs, Burke County's tax administrator, opened the task force presentation by saying the office is "resetting the values for 01/01/2027" as part of the general revaluation process.
Isaacs explained the county follows the Machinery Act (chapter 105) and uses three approaches to value—sales-comparison, cost and income—choosing the weighting based on data availability. He said schedule-of-values materials (building types, square footage, land schedules) will be delivered to the board and to the tax office for public review before formal adoption.
Isaacs said staff aims to deliver the draft schedule values in September, provide at least 21 days for review and hold a public hearing on adoption in November, with valuation notices to follow in January and an appeal period after notices are mailed. "We'll submit those about 21 days prior to the hearing," he said, adding the office wants to resolve many discrepancies informally before matters proceed to the board of equalization and review.
