Dolton adopts updated housing nuisance and rental licensing ordinance

The board adopted an updated housing nuisance abatement and residential rental licensing ordinance intended to strengthen enforcement tools for blighted and nuisance properties and to institute crime-free housing practices.
"This ordinance is about much more than enforcing rules. It's about protecting our neighborhoods and investing in the people who call Dolton," Trustee Norwood said while introducing the amendment, saying the rules aim to improve landlord–police communication and early intervention.
The ordinance updates prior language, increases enforceability for chronic nuisance properties and applies to rental licensing and landlord responsibilities. Trustees voted to approve the ordinance by roll call; no immediate changes to staffing or a financing package were announced on the record.
