Board approves police labor contract with two-year back-pay amendment

Trustees voted to approve the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police contract (05/01/2024–04/30/2027) after adopting a superseding amendment to stretch back-pay repayment over two years.
The Village of Dolton approved a three-year police labor contract covering May 1, 2024 through April 30, 2027 on Aug. 3, and trustees adopted an amendment to spread required back-pay repayment over two years.
During discussion the administrator and other officials noted the amendment would supersede an earlier repayment schedule. "The original portion was for a 2 months, agreement... It would take the village about 2 years," the administrator said when discussing payback scheduling during the motion to supersede and approve. Trustees moved and a roll-call vote passed the amended motion.
No dollar amounts for overall contract cost or the total back-pay were read into the public minutes at the meeting; the administrator said the payment schedule adjustment was intended to make the obligation manageable for the village's finances.
