Board approves Port Sanilac Brownfield Plan to spur redevelopment

The Sanilac County Board of Commissioners on April 15 approved a Brownfield Redevelopment Plan for the Port Sanilac Wellness and redevelopment project under Michigan Public Act 381 of 1996. The plan was read into the record and the board found it met statutory requirements, that eligible activities were reasonable and necessary, and that the financing method was feasible.
The resolution notes the village of Port Sanilac reviewed the plan and passed a concurrence resolution at its February 4, 2025 council meeting. The board's action authorizes the County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority to administer the plan; the duration was estimated at 21 years but may not exceed the 35-year statutory cap. Commissioners praised staff and committee members who helped revive the county Brownfield Committee.
