Drain Commissioner Doug Sweet presented the 2024 annual drain report, summarizing maintenance actions and project planning. Sweet said crews performed work on 142 drains last year (including brush/sediment removal on 46 drains, spraying on 96 drains, roughly 190 miles sprayed and dirt work on about 65 drains).
Sweet highlighted two major projects. A Top Rain project—estimated at about $2.9 million—was financed after the county pledged full faith and credit and secured a locked interest rate of 4.26%; MDOT is contributing just over $2.2 million to the project. The project is scheduled to begin in the next couple of months. Sweet also reported that MDOT will fully fund replacement of culverts under M-19 with a box culvert at Spring Creek in Peck; that work is scheduled to start within six to eight weeks.
The board accepted the annual drain report by voice vote.
