Lincoln County canvasses gubernatorial runoff; audit set for Aug. 18

Lincoln County commissioners conducted the official county canvass of the July 28 Republican gubernatorial runoff and approved the abstract of results at their July 30 meeting.
Auditing staff reported Lincoln County had 27,416 active registered Republican voters eligible for the runoff and 9,308 ballots cast, producing a turnout of 33.95%. Staff read the reported vote totals for the runoff: "Toby Doughton had 2,527 votes. Larry Roden had 6,768," and said the county recorded 10 blank ballots and two unstamped (invalid) ballots. The board then moved to approve and execute the abstract of results.
As required for post‑election transparency, staff also announced the county will hold a post‑election audit on Aug. 18 at 10 a.m. in the Commission Chambers. Staff described the state‑required 5% precinct sample (two precincts for Lincoln County) and used bingo balls to randomly select the audit precincts: B15 (Precinct 29 combined with 27, 638 ballots) and B5 (Precinct 13‑14, 172 ballots). "So it'll be Precinct 29 Slash 27 for 638 ballots and Precinct 13‑14 for a 172 ballots," staff said when announcing the picks.
County staff cautioned commissioners the Secretary of State's office indicated the county may not be reimbursed for audit costs. The commission approved the canvass and authorized execution of the abstract by roll call. The post‑election audit is open to the public on Aug. 18 in the Commission Chambers.
