Board hears student recognitions and district updates including FFA, attendance concerns and insurance increase

Teachers presented awards to elementary students and Ms. Combs read the names of middle-school students who could not attend so they would still be recognized. In the Pre-K–8 report Ms. Combs said the preschool program finished its first marking period with "78% of the students are meeting benchmarks and 100% of students at above the benchmarks for creative learning."
Mrs. Gavenda reported that FFA attended the national convention, returning with a team bronze and individual accolades; she also noted rising attendance problems since 2019 and that the district is working toward a "Strive for less than 5" goal for absences. District staff reported that health insurance rates rose about 15% for staff, and the AEA voted to remain with MESSA after staff options were shared.
Board members also heard reports about volunteer-supported student assistance programs, upcoming events, and planned training (including a NARCAN training). No formal board actions were generated from the reports beyond routine acknowledgment.
