County reports SPLOST win, roundabout construction underway and broadband support request

County Manager Thomas Weaver updated commissioners on a cluster of service and infrastructure matters at the Nov. 12 meeting.
Weaver said the SPLOST referendum passed and the county will submit required materials to the state. He also confirmed that the CW Matthews contractor has begun work on a roundabout referenced by commissioners; when Commissioner Biddle asked whether CW Matthews had started, Weaver replied, "yes, it is underway." The minutes also record a request from Sumter Electric and economic development partners asking the commission for a letter of support that would aid efforts to bring Charter/Spectrum internet service to the county.
In other operational notes raised across the Nov. 12 and Nov. 25 sessions, staff reported that recreation registration (youth basketball) is open, road maintenance and drainage work continue (including aggregate on Patterson Road), and the county will shift Thursday trash routes to Wednesday for that week. The county manager also reminded residents to protect pipes from freezing and mentioned a donation to Fort Moore animal-control operations.
