Lee County highlights Pet of the Month, outlines shelter outreach and events

Lee County Domestic Animal Services presented 'Tyler' as August's Pet of the Month, said the shelter microchipped more than 100 pets this summer, reported over 1,300 adoptions and 1,800 transfers to rescue year-to-date, and announced a Clear the Shelters event Aug. 15 with waived adoption fees.
Lee County Domestic Animal Services staff introduced "Tyler," a 1-year-old bulldog terrier mix, as the county's Pet of the Month and outlined recent shelter outreach and programming.
"We microchipped over a 100 pets in our community," Sergio Perez said, listing summer services that included hurricane-preparedness kit distributions and the ongoing spay/neuter voucher partnership. Perez said the shelter has facilitated "over 1,300 adoptable animals" placed to date and an additional "1,800 sent to rescue." He gave the shelter address, 5600 Banner Drive, and encouraged residents to check the department's site for available pets.
Karen, an animal-services staff member, described upcoming events including Clear the Shelters on Aug. 15 (9 a.m.–4 p.m.) when adoption fees will be waived with an approved online application, and an Aug. 20 foster-info event for people who cannot attend during regular hours.
The commissioners thanked staff for the outreach and encouraged community participation in the adoption and foster events. No formal action was required.
