Daniels County plans to accept decommissioned 150-foot Billings communications tower

Chair opened a conference call with contractor representatives about acquiring a decommissioned 150-foot communications tower from Billings and said the county is prepared to accept the structure for later reassembly. "There's a 150 foot communications tower in Billings that we're able to get our hands on," the Chair said, describing plans to receive the tower in 40-foot sections and store them near the county building until installation.
Contractor representatives said they have a template for the tower base, drawings and a quote for new hardware and would provide pictures and dimensions so Daniels County can prepare a concrete pad and staging area. The contractor advised that transport options include a 40–50-foot flatbed or a semi flatbed and offered to inspect the tower on-site before deconstruction. "So that would that so the week of December 2 is the week that we'd be tentatively aiming," the contractor said about the deconstruction timeline.
County participants discussed staging: keeping sections off mud using railroad ties or pallets, using telehandlers or the county's payloader to unload, and whether to contract a hauler or source local equipment. They also emphasized the need for clear, separate quotes and insurance documentation before any on-site work begins. The county asked for contractor insurance and for an MOU or contract that preserves county liability protections.
