County weighs replacing phone system and watches state SSIS funding

A commissioner told the board the county could transfer existing phone numbers to a Teams-based system to avoid a large one-time capital purchase; staff were directed to present options, including licensing and long-term subscription costs. The board noted that skipping equipment replacement in prior years had created catch-up purchases.
On state funding, County Administrator Dave Minkie said he received email that about $35 million (of a $40 million request) for SSIS modernization appeared in a bill under consideration. He cautioned that the amount still needed to finish the legislative process before the county could count on the funding.
Commissioners emphasized budget uncertainty for 2026 and said departments should prepare budgets realizing that some state support remains unconfirmed.
