District reports playground repairs, shade-structure delays and expansion of after-school programming

Facilities staff updated trustees on summer projects at multiple sites. At EB Kane the TK play mat was installed and construction fencing will come down in coming days with temporary orange fencing remaining in a few areas until final gates and finishes are ready. A shade structure at another playground encountered heavy rock while installing footings; staff said the footing design was revised to go about four feet down with additional concrete out to the side and the project is awaiting DSA approval before installation expected within approximately two weeks.
The district completed gutter replacement on main wings and an upper portable, installed a ball wall at Sky Ridge and moved preschool facilities to Auburn Elementary. Two classrooms that suffered water damage were remodeled over the summer. Facilities staff also reported expansion of after-school (Elop) programming with partnerships including the sheriff's activities league and local providers; staff said they are ramping up programming and budgeted approximately $1.71 million for Elop-related activities within a roughly $900,000 baseline annual spend (discussion included a projected $800,000 additional programming figure tied to ramp-up activity).
