Meridian Community Unit School District 223 Board President John Smith called a special meeting to order at 5:01 p.m. on Oct. 17, 2024, in the Meridian Junior High School Board of Education Room. At roll call DeVries, Huber, Youman, Welden and Smith were present; Rhodes was noted as arriving later (5:20). Member Collins was absent.
Board member DeVries moved to approve the meeting agenda and Board member Welden seconded. The minutes state "Ayes: All. The motion was carried unanimously." The record shows the approval occurred at the start of the meeting before Rhodes' arrival.
Shortly after the agenda vote the board voted to adjourn into closed session on a motion by Huber, seconded by Youman; the minutes record the time of adjournment to closed session as 5:02 p.m. The board later reconvened in open session after the closed meeting on a motion by Welden, seconded by Youman; the minutes record the reconvening time as 8:59 p.m.
The meeting was adjourned by Board President John Smith at 9:00 p.m. The minutes record that no community input was received during the meeting. The official minutes were noted as "Respectfully Submitted by Elaine Nicholson, Recording Secretary" and "Verified by John Smith, Board President."
