Craig Mathers, presenting the levy, explained the district is a PTELL (Property Tax Extension Limitation Law) district and is limited to CPI from two years prior (3.4%) plus new property growth (1.29%), totaling 4.69%. Mathers told the board the draft levy was posted on the district website Nov. 15 to meet statutory requirements; because the proposed levy exceeds a 5% notice threshold, board members voted to approve the draft levy and schedule the required hearing. The motion to approve the FY 2024 Draft Levy passed by a roll-call vote of 6 Yes and 0 No.
The board’s action begins the formal public-notice process required under state tax law and allows taxpayers to attend and comment at the Truth in Taxation hearing. The board indicated it will revisit details at that special meeting and invited interested residents to attend.
