County engineer approves Progress Park data center plans; connector road expected in 2027

County Engineer Johnny Kincer told the Planning Commission on July 6 that he has approved plans for a data center at Progress Park and is also overseeing pond work at the Hitachi Energy Arena.
Deputy County Administrator Matthew Hankins provided a broader update on infrastructure tied to Progress Park, saying the connector road "should be finished by late summer/early fall of 2027." Hankins also outlined several VDOT projects — additional climbing lanes toward Bland and a Monroe Street realignment that will create an aligned four-way intersection — and noted that a new northbound entrance onto I-77 is open while work on the southbound entrance continues.
Hankins said a sewer project on Route 52 is now operational and that the Water Department is pursuing a new pump station for Siloam and Shadow Lane to serve increased housing; he linked the pump-station need to growth-driven demand for larger-diameter pipes. The engineer's approval of Progress Park data center plans and the connector-road timeline will be factors in upcoming site work and any permit activity.
