Board updates Policy 8390 to clarify service, therapy and emotional support animals

The Chelsea School District Board approved Action Item 27-24-25, updating Policy 8390 on Animals on District Property, at its Oct. 7 meeting. Michelle Craig moved to approve the updated policy and Scott Moore seconded; the motion passed with six votes in favor and one member absent.
During discussion, Board member Erin Hunt-Carter specifically recommended "including wording regarding service, therapy, and emotional support animals." The update will become part of the district's policy set as the Policy Committee continues its review of Thrun policies, which the superintendent said will take effect as they are approved (planned effective date: July 2025).
