Chelsea board adopts multiple Thrun policy series, tables Policy 2302 and two 2500 items

The Chelsea School District board voted 5-0 on Oct. 28 to adopt multiple Thrun policy series that will take effect July 1, 2025, while tabling Policy 2302 and two 2500-series items (2505 and 2506) for further review.
The Chelsea School District Board of Education on Oct. 28 voted to adopt several sets of Thrun policies that Superintendent Kapolka recommended to take effect July 1, 2025. The board approved Thrun 1000 (policies 1101, 1201, 1301, 1404), Thrun 2100 (2101–2104), Thrun 2200 (2201–2202), Thrun 2300 (2301, 2303, 2304, 2305, 2306) and Thrun 2400 (2401–2406) in motions that carried unanimously, 5-0.
Board members noted the process will replace existing NEOLA policies and create a uniform Thrun policy set across the district. Erin Hunt-Carter moved to approve portions of the Thrun series, and Heidi Reyst, Glenn Fox and other board members seconded and supported the motions. The board specifically tabled Policy 2302, removing it from Action Item 35-24-25 for later consideration and instructed that discussion on some Open Meetings Act items (policies 2505 and 2506) be postponed for further review.
The policy adoptions and tabled items were recorded as formal motions and votes during the meeting. The board’s action means the approved Thrun policies are slated to be in effect beginning July 1, 2025, while the tabled policies will return to a future agenda for additional discussion.
