Sheriff's office reports spike in regional gas station robberies; no uptick in local gang activity, official says

Undersheriff Dave Yarnell reported to the council that the Sheriff's department has observed an increase in gas station robberies in nearby communities including Tonasket, Omak and Okanogan. Yarnell provided the regional context during the Police Report portion of the Dec. 16 meeting.
In response to Councilmember Frank Herbert's question about local drug or gang activity, Yarnell said there had not been an increase in activity in Pateros. The council recorded the update for situational awareness; no formal action or allocation of resources was recorded in the minutes.
