They explained Starbase operates in five consecutive weekly sessions, with two classrooms running morning and afternoon sessions; the program also maintains a waiting list and offers some after-school and enrichment opportunities. The committee discussed Starbase’s Community Outreach model, in which a Starbase teacher delivers programming in-district; staff noted this outreach model may be more feasible and impactful for Gull Lake than sending students off-site.
Committee members agreed the Starbase program does not address every gap in the district’s existing STEM offerings. The committee will share its assessment of Starbase with the full Board for consideration of next steps and possible local implementation options.
