Gull Lake committee reviews K–5 improvement plans, literacy and math curriculum updates

Assistant Superintendent Drew Bordner opened the committee’s substantive review of district and building improvement plans, introducing K–5 principals and an overview of each school’s goals and vision for the coming year.
K–2 teams reported implementation of the University of Florida Literacy Institute (UFLI) program, now utilized in all Y5–2 classrooms. Staff also reported continued use of the Reveal math curriculum across early grades; Grades 3–5 teams are working to refine scope and sequence in mathematics instruction. Principals described building-level strategies and how Cultural Agility professional development is being integrated to support equitable classroom practices.
Principal Rob Woodrow highlighted specific strategies used at Ryan Intermediate and participated in a question-and-answer exchange with committee members about supports and monitoring of the improvement plans. The committee recorded these curriculum and professional-development updates for the Board’s information and did not take a formal vote on curriculum adoption at this meeting.
The committee indicated it will continue monitoring implementation data and follow up with staff on measurable benchmarks for literacy and math outcomes at upcoming meetings.
