Board to review survey policies after unapproved high-school survey prompts public comment

Multiple public commenters raised concerns about a student survey administered in some Howell High School classes. Representative Jason Woolford, Joanie Econom and Terran Fry addressed the board during public comment about the survey; Julia Barker also spoke about an incident involving her child.
Superintendent Mr. MacGregor apologized for the incident and notified families by email. He clarified that "that that statement is not correct" when a public commenter asserted the district had given the particular survey for 25 years; he said he has no knowledge of the district having used that specific survey before this year and said the Policy Committee will review applicable procedures to prevent a repeat. Board President Ms. Tarara told the public the board "was not aware of the survey until after it was given" and said she looks forward to revising policies and urged constituents to contact state representatives regarding Michigan Department of Education oversight.
