Northern Valley prepares for KESA action-plan meeting; negotiations letter due March 31

Superintendent Ken Tharman told trustees the District Leadership Team met with Dr. Amber Miller of the Kansas State Department of Education last week in preparation for the KESA Action Plan meeting scheduled for March 3 in Phillipsburg. Tharman noted that KESA (Kansas Education Systems Accreditation) has moved to a yearly cycle and that the district will participate in the March action-plan work.
On negotiations, Tharman said a previously scheduled in-person training was canceled; board members Hilary Van Patten and Laquita Smith will complete the required negotiations training remotely. He reminded the board that a letter to the teachers' organization listing negotiated items is due by March 31.
The district packet includes KSDE guidance material on action-plan components and timelines; the board discussed next steps for local planning and staff engagement ahead of the KESA work.
