Tatum ISD audit finds district in good standing ahead of VATRE special election

The Tatum Independent School District Board of Trustees heard the required efficiency audit prior to a Voter Approval Tax Ratification Election (VATRE), Assistant Superintendent of Finance Brandon Milam said. The audit analyzed data maintained by the Texas Education Agency and the district through the year ended Aug. 31, 2023 and compared Tatum to 10 selected peer districts.
"The audit reports good standing for the district in attendance, teacher salaries, and turnover rates," Mr. Milam said in his overview; the auditor report will be posted on the Tatum ISD webpage for public review. The Board held the item as a public hearing and took no formal action during that presentation.
The audit was presented as part of the board's preparation for a Nov. 5, 2024 special VATRE election. Superintendent Dr. J.P. Richardson later asked the Board to approve an order establishing election officers and polling places for that election, which the board approved as a separate action.
