Summary

The presenter told trustees the Student Support and Professional Development Block Grant (SSPDBG) — a one‑time grant of about $900,000 — can be used for teacher recruitment and retention and that the district is using part of the grant to support the $1,000 one‑time lump‑sum bonus for certificated nonmanagement staff. "It's about $900,000... and so it came this year as a new grant. It specifically can be used for teacher recruitment and retention, which is why I understand that the district agreed to use it to support these onetime bonuses," the presenter said.
The presenter estimated the $1,000 per teacher lump-sum will cost about $240,000 after factoring driven costs such as STRS, workers' comp and other employer contributions (he said he factored in an approximate 23% driven cost). The presenter noted the grant is restricted to certificated nonmanagement positions and cannot be used for classified or management bonuses. Trustees asked clarifying questions about eligibility and fund timing; staff said the grant has expenditure restrictions and must be spent within the allowable period.
