Board approves boiler replacement contracts at Cherry Creek and Superior Hills schools

The Marquette Area Public Schools Board of Education approved a motion April 21 to award boiler replacement work at Cherry Creek Elementary School and Superior Hills Elementary School to Prime Specialty Contracting.
Trustee Jennifer Klipp moved the award and Trustee Jennifer Ray seconded; the motion carried 7-0. GEI Consultants, which reviewed submitted bids, recommended Prime Specialty Contracting as the lowest responsive and responsible bidder and recommended the district accept an alternate that uses the district-preferred AERCO boilers. In its written recommendation included in the meeting materials, GEI stated it "recommend[s] awarding the contract to Prime Specialty Contracting, inclusive of the alternate bid for replacing boilers at both CCES and SHES with AERCO units, for a total contract amount of $96,964." GEI also recommended establishing a 10% contingency ($9,696) to accommodate unforeseen conditions during construction.
The board recorded no amendments to the award during the meeting. The recommendation and award cover replacement scope, re-piping and reconnection work as identified in the bid documents; GEI's review noted that another bidder submitted a nonconforming bid format and therefore was not recommended.
