The Board approved a Thrun policy update on March 17 that adds Policy 4113 and Form 4113-F to reflect amendments to the Michigan Earned Sick Time Act (ESTA). The package includes a sample employee "ESTA Hire Notice" and instructs the district to display the required ESTA poster and to provide updated hire notices to staff.
The policy text incorporated in the meeting packet explains accrual, use, documentation and recordkeeping responsibilities under the ESTA, including the District's option to frontload earned sick time and the requirement to retain records for at least three years. The update also replaces Policy 4305 with an "Intentionally Left Blank" placeholder to preserve numbering. Trustee Jason Zdunek moved and Trustee Jennifer Klipp seconded the motion to approve the March 3, 2025 Thrun Policy Update; the motion carried 7-0.
The administration will distribute the required ESTA hire notices and post the LEO-created ESTA poster as the Labor & Economic Opportunity materials become available. Staff will follow the policy language for accrual, documentation and confidentiality in cases involving domestic violence or medical information.
