Board approves vacation of East Street and alleyways in Deeth to let owner combine parcels

Corey Rice, Elko County surveyor and senior planner, presented a request from Raul Rodriguez to vacate East Street and adjoining alley segments in Block C and part of Block B in the Town of Deeth so the owner can combine several parcels into one. Rice said staff and the Elko County Planning Commission recommended approval, and he told the board vacation would not block legal access to other parcels.
A commissioner confirmed with staff that most lots in Deeth are unbuildable due to lot size and the area is not expected to grow; another commissioner explained that vacating a county street typically places the land on the tax roll, which could provide new opportunities for owners if access is preserved. The board moved, seconded and approved the vacation with staff conditions.
Why this matters: The action will allow the property owner to consolidate land that staff said will not deprive neighbors of legal access and will convert the vacated right-of-way to taxable property for future use. The vote followed a unanimous planning commission recommendation and no public opposition in the planning record.
