Nevada Works says Good Jobs and apprenticeship grants boosted region’s training capacity

Milton Stewart described the Good Jobs Northern Nevada award — an Economic Development Administration grant the organization reported as $15,000,000 over three years — and said Nevada Works obtained a no-cost extension to run through Dec. 31 of the current year. "We actually asked for an extension, a no cost extension ... and so we're able to continue to provide those services for another year," Stewart said.
Stewart also highlighted apprenticeship programming supported by a U.S. Department of Labor grant (Apprenticeship Building America, $4,000,000 over four years), saying the program exceeded its target of 400 apprentices and has enrolled more than 500 to date. He said Nevada Works is serving as an apprenticeship intermediary to help smaller employers stand up apprenticeship programs. The presentation was informational and the board did not take action on the grant items.
