The Town Board on Oct. 30, 2024, voted to designate the municipal parking lot at 1179 Main Street the "Earl A. Plumley Municipal Parking Lot." The resolution records local-historical reasons: Earl A. Plumley operated the Long Lake Garage and Taxi Service from about 1903–1953 and owned the original school bus service that supported local school attendance.
Resolution 63 of 2024 also authorizes the Long Lake Historical Society to erect a commemorative sign on town property using funds donated to the society for that purpose. The motion to adopt the resolution was moved by Councilman Richard B. Dechene, seconded by Councilman Thomas L. Donnelly, and adopted unanimously.
The minutes indicate the action aims to preserve local history and does not allocate town funds for sign installation; the Historical Society will supply the sign from donated funds.
