Teachers who tested math materials say new resources would reduce planning burden

Multiple teacher campus representatives told the board they had time to test platforms, review physical materials and discuss strengths and gaps in grade-level teams. "We all met in the library...and we went through those look-fors and we were very meticulous," said Christina Munoz, Kendrick Elementary campus representative. Teachers described the campus process as grade-level review and small-group work; several said students were asked for input on workbook usability.

Teachers stressed that the current resource required them to supplement from multiple sources and that a more complete core product could reduce teacher workload. "Because our Envision is outdated, I've been using about 7 or 8 different resources to plug and create the lesson plan that our district uses," one teacher said during testimony, adding that a single, aligned resource would help internalization and teacher planning. Teachers also cautioned that no program is perfect; many said the decision should include monitoring and frequent feedback in the first year of implementation to identify gaps quickly.

Trustees engaged teachers on concerns about scripted elements, student choice and small-group supports; district staff responded by pointing to digital-platform features and vendor-supplied supplemental modules (for example, a 'Catalyst' supplement for small-group activities and a planned digital intervention product for Bluebonnet that was not part of the review materials). Teachers asked that implementation plans include clear guidance for internalization, PLC time and monitoring to ensure the new material reduces rather than shifts workload.
