County staff and the district attorney's office laid out technical and operational reasons for a sole-source contract with Axon, focusing on long-term storage, discovery workflows and maintaining chain-of-custody.
Detective Sergeant Anne Stein, who researched vendor options for the prosecutor's office, said Axon met prosecutor-specific needs for organizing digital evidence and disclosure. "It is truly unlimited storage," Sergeant Stein said. County IT staff said storage volumes have grown dramatically and that hardware replacement quotes have risen sharply; IT noted an example where a quoted piece of equipment rose from $76,000 to nearly $700,000 within months, urging that a 10-year fixed-price agreement could hedge future volatility.
