Gunter's City Council on Feb. 5 approved several election-related measures: an ordinance ordering a general election on May 2, 2026 for council places 1, 3 and 5; a resolution to enter a joint election agreement with Gunter ISD to share polling-location costs; and an interlocal agreement with Grayson County election officials to provide election services.
Councilor (speaker 4) moved to adopt the election ordinance, which passed unanimously. The council also discussed that pooling costs with the school district is intended to reduce individual fees and that shared polling-location costs could range from about $6,000 up to $10,500; the council authorized the mayor to execute the joint-agreement documents. The county interlocal agreement (ILA) was likewise approved and the mayor was authorized to sign necessary documents.
The school-district agreement was recorded as resolution 2026-02-05-2 and the county ILA as 2026-02-05-3. Council discussed cost uncertainty but approved both agreements to finalize logistics for the May election.
