The Amorth Board of Health voted unanimously on Aug. 3 to approve a stable and animal license for the properties at 88 and 100 Mill Lane, permitting a maximum of 32 animals under the terms presented to the board.
Board member Mary moved that the board "approve the stable and animal license for the farm, and that, we take note of the and they take note of the 32 animals that are being permitted. And if there are to be any increase in that number of animals, that they will come before us and, and request a variance." The motion was seconded and carried without opposition.
The applicant had applied separately for licenses covering the goats and the stable (reported as 30 goats and 2 donkeys), which together total the 32 animals listed in the application. Town council adviser Jay Talerman told the board an application for a license does not itself require the board to relitigate prior variances and recommended that the license process incorporate how the applicant will work with existing variances.
Board members discussed breeding and possible future increases in the herd; Talerman urged the board to add an explicit condition requiring a formal variance application if animal counts exceed the permitted maximum. The approved motion records that any increase above 32 will trigger a variance requirement.
After the vote the chair noted inspections by the health department will continue and the department will address any problems found during routine oversight.
