Superintendent reports preliminary enrollment decline; names "unsung hero"

At the Sept. 8 meeting, Superintendent Keevin O'Neill reported preliminary enrollment of 2,512 students for the 2025-26 school year, compared with 2,560 at the same point last year.
O'Neill also praised the energy at the staff opener and thanked community education staff and Alyssa Thompson for a well-attended community tailgate. He announced the district's annual "unsung hero" award, naming Saleem Ismail as this year's recipient; O'Neill read Ismail's card to the board during his report.
O'Neill noted several upcoming events tied to student life, including homecoming activities next week, a powder-puff event on Monday, the parade next Friday, and an assembly at 1:45 p.m. in the stadium. The superintendent also said that count day and first half-day are included in the schedule.
