County changes health-insurance broker after 49% renewal increase; Splashpad and road bids discussed

County Manager Thomas Weaver told commissioners at a May 27 work session that the county's health-insurance renewal initially showed a 49% increase. "We also have several commercial accounts that have not been paying for trash, and we have sent out letters to them," Weaver added, and said the county has changed insurance brokers to pursue lower premiums.
Staff reported several operational updates: public works had 37 street light fixtures replaced by Sumter, landscaping at City Hall was refreshed, some Magnolia Homes lots are under construction, and the Splashpad items and gym floor repairs are scheduled — the Splashpad was expected to open by June 5 and gym floors were planned for mid-June. Roadwork planning continues: Friendship Road engineering is complete and staff recommended putting the project out to bid.
