FC Monmouth looks to World Cup to boost Red Bank matches and youth outreach

FC Monmouth, the county's men's and women's soccer organization, is pitching the county's World Cup season as a chance to bring more visitors to Red Bank and local matches.
"So, we play right out of Count Basie Park right down the road in in Red Bank," James Davis of FC Monmouth said, describing the club's home field and its emphasis on community connection. Davis said FC Monmouth fields both men’s and women’s teams and draws primarily local players "that have future aspirations to represent the county, to play professionally."
The club plans a May 1 season kickoff that will include a field-trip day inviting schools from across Monmouth County for a free on-field experience tied to a Friday-night home game. Davis said the club also runs a scholarship program honoring Monmouth County high-school graduates who stayed in the county to play youth soccer; the program has run for four years.
Tom Arnone, Monmouth County commissioner director, described the World Cup coming to New Jersey as a broader tourism boost that could bring out-of-area visitors to county venues: "They're gonna be coming down to the shore, and they're gonna be coming to visit us. Hopefully, come and catch a game right at Red Bank." The county said it will promote local events and welcome out-of-town attendees during the tournament.
