Algonac schools report student awards, spring events and staffing change

School leaders reported student achievements and spring events at the April 28 Algonac Board meeting. Ryan Melrose noted two TEC students placed at SkillsUSA (Ally Brooks, silver; Adrianna Gable, bronze) and listed upcoming events: Decision Day for seniors on May 2, an art auction May 14, Jr. High drama Matilda Jr. on May 21 and a band concert the same evening. The district's PSAT/SAT testing has concluded and M‑STEP testing has begun.
Elementary leaders described Earth Day activities and community partnerships: Brooklynn Lestage said the fifth grade held an Earth Day art show and the third grade visited Goodells Park; Run Club has over 50 student participants. Amber Palicke reported that varsity baseball players visited classrooms, the Ann Arbor Hands‑On Museum visited the schools, and the elementary carnival was successful. Dana Bosel said preschool is preparing for graduation and summer childcare programs, including teacher‑led sessions and a football camp.
Administrators also flagged a staffing change: "Due to budget cuts, there will no longer be a college advisor at the high school," the minutes record. Several upcoming events and screenings were scheduled in May.
