Meridian Community Unit School District #223’s board of education voted unanimously on Nov. 25 to approve an employment contract for Dr. Michael Plourde as the district’s new superintendent with a salary of $169,000. The motion to approve the contract was made by Board member Huber and seconded by Board member Collins; the minutes record the vote as Ayes: DeVries, Rhodes, Welden, Youman, Collins, Huber and Smith.
Dr. Michael Plourde, identified in the minutes as the incoming superintendent, addressed the board after the vote. "I am looking forward to working for Meridian CUSD 223," Dr. Plourde said, thanking the board for the opportunity. The approval came after the board briefly moved into closed session and reconvened in open session at 6:08 p.m.
Board President John Smith presided over the special meeting, which began at 6:00 p.m. and concluded with adjournment at 6:17 p.m. The minutes list members Collins, DeVries, Huber, Rhodes, Smith, Youman and Welden as present. No community input was recorded during the meeting.
