At its Aug. 28 regular meeting, the Jacksonville School District #117 Board of Education heard its financial report for the start of fiscal year 2025. Chief Financial Officer Rick Cunningham told the board that "the district is 0.08% of the way through the budget year" and presented the district's operating fund balances: Fund 10 (Education) $38,272,776.05; Fund 20 (Operations & Maintenance) $4,544,020.71; Fund 40 (Transportation) $3,304,474.93; Fund 70 (Working Cash) $3,035,041.34 — for a total of $49,156,313.03.
Superintendent Steve Ptacek said the district saw a year-over-year increase in total funds, noting "the district did have a $4,060,685.69 increase from this time last year," while also cautioning that the full budgetary effect of recent pay increases will not be visible for several months. The board reviewed auxiliary trackers: sales tax was down for April by $3,858.84 compared with last year, while PPRT collections were described as "tracking with a 2.7 million gain." Board members did not take immediate budget-cutting action; the discussion focused on monitoring revenue streams and timing for when salary changes will affect expenditures.
