The Anchorage Assembly met in a special session on July 31, 2026, and voted to move into executive session to receive the annual legal briefing from the municipal attorney’s office. Chair opened the meeting in Conference Room 155 and said the briefing would be handled in closed session under provisions of the Anchorage Municipal Code.
An attorney from the municipal law office explained the legal basis for the closed-door briefing, saying it would "involve discussion of information on specific legal matters including pending litigation as well as subjects which by law... are required to be confidential including the provision of legal advice subject to attorney-client privilege." The lawyer cited AMC 2.30.070(a) and related code sections as the authority for the executive session. The motion to enter executive session was moved and seconded and adopted without objection. After the executive session the chair reported that no substantive action occurred during the closed meeting other than a procedural extension of the meeting time.
