Staff member S5 told the board several young women and parents have inquired about starting new girls extracurriculars, including flag football, wrestling and esports, and proposed surveying students to measure interest.
S5 said, "I've had more young ladies come and ask me if we could start a flight football program," and asked the board whether the district should add one fall sport at the expense of another. Members discussed Title IX implications: S5 noted, "We'd still have to keep boys cross country because of Title 9," meaning adding a girls sport could require a boys sport to be added or maintained to preserve parity. The board agreed a survey would be appropriate before committing to new programs and tasked staff with returning with participation numbers and likely travel/funding impacts.
Board members also discussed nearby competition and travel costs; some members said they would support pursuing grant or foundation funds if interest justified adding a program in future years.
