Staff explained that zoning and land‑use regulations should instead focus on spatial constraints, setbacks and other site standards that directly affect neighboring properties.
A board member moved to schedule a public hearing on the proposed amendment for August 27, 2026 at 6 p.m.; the motion was seconded and the board approved the hearing date and time. Residents in the public comment period, including Stephen Boyle, urged the board to modernize the ordinance language, noting that modern sawmills can be highly automated and employee counts do not reflect production scale. Staff said other related uses, such as slaughterhouses, may also warrant review and that any final ordinance will be drafted and advertised for public review before the hearing.
